Wynonna Judd is Raising Awareness for Dogs with Arthritis

1.39

In 1984, Wynonna Judd first encountered stardom with her mother as the country-singing duo, The Judds. Now, in 2003, Judd has gone solo, collecting a number of experiences and successes for her career while increasing her humanitarian efforts, working towards a better care for animals. As of late, Judd’s efforts have led her to raise awareness for canine arthritis, making public appearances, creating a program and even adopting an arthritic dog named Pixie. So, what has she been up to these past few years? And why the sudden interest in helping out our furry friends?

Musically, Judd has been a success with over 15 released discs, touring in front of millions both with her mother and alone, and has been rewarded a number of grammy awards, Country Music Association Awards, and Billboard Music Awards. She has even written, produced and recorded a hit song entitled “You Are” for the major motion picture Someone Like You, starring sister Ashley Judd. Most recently, Judd continues to push her career forward with her new CD coming out by Curb Records, called “What the World Needs Now is Love.” This record marks and celebrates her 20th year in the music industry. Look for it at a music store near you this August.

Yet in her personal life, Judd has suffered the disastrous effects of asthma. After a 30-year battle with this problem, she has finally gotten treatment while making some drastic changes in her lifestyle to finally get her life back on track. She has also championed a pet-cause: helping dogs with arthritis.

Judd has always been an animal lover, and currently owns several pets including dogs, cats, buffalos, and deer! This past year, she has adopted the aforementioned dog, an arthritic rat terrier named Pixie, during National Arthritis Month to kick off her “Free From Pain” program with the Arthritis Foundation. Pixie isn’t Judd’s only dog with arthritis; she has four other dogs with the same condition, all of which reside in her Nashville, Tennessee ranch.

Judd hopes to increase education for dog owners of this forgotten issue among canines through her program and efforts. She encourages people to look out for symptoms of arthritis and schedule regular visits to the veterinarian for an arthritis test, especially since most pet-owners mistake signs of arthritis to be characteristics of old age. If your dog is, in fact, suffering this condition, there is treatment available. A few of Judd’s dogs are currently given prescribed medication and are living an easier and more enjoyable life. For someone who has such a hectic life as a mother, singer, and public icon, Wynonna Judd has her work cut out for her, especially these days, having to promote a brand new record. But, if she is still available and attentive to the needs of her pets, be certain that you can be too. So get moving and get a checkup, particularly for arthritis, for your furry companions; they will repay your kindness with love and complete devotion. At least it works for one of the biggest country music stars!
