The Regency Hotel, New York City

Weekend Getaway

The Animal Fair crew took these amazing animals, Samantha, Joey, Valentino and Zoe from various shelters for a luxurious stay at the Regency Hotel, one of only establishments in New York City where animals are welcomed and pampered. Furry guests receive treats such as dog bones and catnip.

More than 11 million animals are killed in shelters each year. Although shelters try to find homes for animals who are abandoned or strays, the lack of space and money results in many animals being euthanized. The furry beauties featured in this shoot are just a few of the many animals available for adoption in shelters across the country.

Samantha, a two-year-old tortoise shell female cat is from:
Manhattan Valley Cat Rescue
Columbia University Station
P.O. Box 250238
New York, NY 10025
(212) 222-9007
www.angelfire.com/ny3/mvcr

This organization is an all-volunteer group of Manhattan Valley residents, working within their community. Volunteers are desperately needed and would be greatly appreciated.

Joey, a six-month-old cocker spaniel mix has been placed with a family, but many of his friends are still ready for adoption at:
Brooklyn CACC 233 Linden Boulevard
Brooklyn, NY
(718) 649-8600
www.nycacc.org

The Brooklyn CACC has over 100 animals available everyday, including purebred cats, dogs, kittens and puppies. There is a $60 adoption fee, which includes exam, vaccination, spay/neuter and a follow-up exam.

Zoe, the white dog and her brother Sam have both been placed, but they have many special friends now waiting for adoption at Bide-A-Wee shelters in Manhattan, Wantagh and Westhampton.
Bide-A-Wee
410 East 38th Street
New York, NY
(212) 532-4455
www.bideawee.org

Bide-A-Wee offers free spaying and neutering for dogs and cats every summer, an externship program for veterinary students, pet therapy, pet memorial parks, and the Golden Years Retirement Home for older, unadoptable pets.

Viola, the black dobie mix, is available for adoption:
Animal Haven 35-22 Prince Street
Flushing, NY
(212) 585-6008
www.AnimalHavenShelter.org

Animal Haven is a no-kill animal shelter for cats, dogs, kittens and puppies.
All animals are spayed/neutered.
