Pet Insurance Provides
The Fiscal & Furry Answer
To Pet Health Care

By Nichole Osinski

Even during these trying economic times in America people are still buying car insurance, health insurance and home insurance. And why not pet insurance? Pet parents should be aware that insurance for their pets is important, even during these “ruff” times. Simply, we love our pets and forever want the best for our furry counterparts. We never know when they might get ill or in an accident, and having the insurance can give owners that extra bit of assurance.

It’s no doubt that we enjoy our animals but of course let’s face it who doesn’t enjoy money as well. also a part of this. Pet insurance can cost between $2,000 and $6,000 during a pets life. Mark Warren, President and CEO of Petheath Inc. commented, “The average premium for a dog would be $325 a year; the average premium for a cat would be $250 a year. Comprehensive coverage for major medical issues with wellness coverage should the pet parent choose to add wellness to the program.“

However, even with these rates it makes economical sense to sign up for and budget in insurance for your pet(s), it’s a wise long term investment. With treatments ranging from radiation therapy to kidney transplants now available for pets (once only reserved for humans), insurance coverage might provide your puppy, cat or other animal companion with a better chance of living a longer and healthier life.

92086Pethealth’s Mark Warren added, “Pet insurance, while covering health related issues, is really a property and casualty product. As an indemnity product, you pay your veterinarian and get reimbursed by the provider. The cost of your vet services is not dictated or limited by your insurance program. “

Maybe the economy seems daunting but an added scare can be when a pet is not doing well physically. Even in 2008 the American Pet Production Manufacturers Association said we spent around $11,000 billion on vet care.

Getting pet insurance could just mean cutting back on other pet items such as new collars (old ones will do – and your pet won’t really care – trust me) or kitty beds (a cozy pillow with blankets will suffice – meow). “There’s a whole lot of new ways to spend money that you don’t need to,” said Stephen Zawistowski, Executive Vice President for National Programs at the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals in New York. He goes on to explain that “your dog couldn’t care less whether you got a Gucci collar.”

Think of pet insurance as a protective cushion for you and your pet, you get to feel more relaxed long term fiscally and your pet will always have a cozy and safe place to rest. Your peace of mind while keeping your pet in one piece is the healthful and advantageous benefits of pet insurance!
