Are you ready to plan your next big getaway?  Since there is no way you’re leaving without your beloved pet, you must find a pet-friendly airline company.

JetBlue Airways is probably one of the most pet-friendly airline companies. If you are planning to travel with your furry pal, you’ll probably want to book a flight with JetBlue and take advantage of their exclusive pet program – JetPaws™. JetPaws™ provides pets and their parents the tips and tools they need for a smooth trip. JetBlue is committed to each and every one of their customers, and this includes pets as well! JetBlue gladly accepts small cats and dogs in the aircraft cabin on both domestic and international flights (with the exception of flights to Jamaica, Barbados, Saint Lucia, and Grand Cayman Islands) but at this time they do not fly animals in the cargo area of its aircrafts.

This free program includes a special bag-tag, attached on your pet carrier at check-in to let everyone know that your pet is ready to fly; a Travel Petiquette™, a list of all the behavior requirements for your pet; and finally True Blue Points™, each flight segment with your pet earns you 300 points. What’s not to love?

JetBlue is dedicated to making your trip smooth, for you and your beloved pet. Everything has been thought through. JetBlue asks that its customers flying with pets proceed to check in your pet at the full service counter with the necessary documents (license, ID tags, and vaccination papers). Only 4 pets are allowed in the aircraft, one per person, so it is highly advised to book your pet early by calling 1-800-538-2583. Your pet carrier cannot exceed 17″L x 12.5″W x 8.5″H, can be soft or hard-sided with a leak proof bottom and the combined weight of your pet and the carrier must not exceed 20 pounds; plus your pet and carrier count as one personal item onboard.

JetBlue sells a custom and comfortable soft sided pet carrier, available online and designed to easily fit under the seats, as well as a Pet Travel kit, the Pet Trotter. You can purchase these products at the airport or online. Click here and here!

For safety reasons, your furry friend will have to stay in its carrier during the flight, under the seat in front of you. This is why it is really important that you exercise your pet before traveling, the trip will seem a lot shorter and easier for Fido if he’s tired and sleepy! To ensure that your pet can relieve itself if needed, JetBlue has even created a dog relief area at JFK’s Terminal 5 in New York. Now that’s a great idea!

To help you prepare your trip, JetBlue has compiled a Pet Travel Guide; where you’ll find all you have to know about flying with your pet on JetBlue as well as a list of pet-friendly hotels, restaurants and parks and animal hospitals in all major American cities.

Your JetBlue travel checklist:

  • Necessary vaccinations and documentation
  • ID tags
  • Pet license
  • Approved pet carrier (no larger than 17″L x 12.5″W x 8.5″H)
  • Pet snacks and treats
  • Pet supplies for the trip
  • A pre-flight workout for your pet. That way they’ll adapt more quickly to their new surroundings and sleep better.
