Even on a cold winter night, Snowdon-Jones dog Gibear can lift anyone's spirit.
Even on a cold winter night, Snowdon-Jones dog Gibear can lift anyone's spirit.

Socialite Emma Snowdon-Jones never had a dog growing up. She lived the fabulous life of a traveler and there was never much time for a family pet. When Gibear, her rescued Schipperke came along, suddenly life got a whole lot different. Because Gibear earned the meaningful and coveted role as “first dog” to his mommy, he gets enough love to fill a shelf-full of scrapbooks. Snowdon-Jones would tell anyone, “I love my dog more than anything in the land!” With that being said, having such a socially celebrated, utterly fabulous, and wonderfully classy sole provider makes Gibear a prime candidate as one of our Most Eligible Pets!

Snowdon-Jones adopted her “little bunny” Gibear shortly after the events of 9/11. She had been working with dedicated members of Engine Company 44 at ground zero where she saw so many dogs toiling away, many of whom lost their lives. She did some research and found that a woman in Alabama had her very own Belgian dream – a Schipperke. Gibear is eligible because he has overcome adversity. Before he was rescued he had been abused, his vocal cords were cut, leaving him unable to bark. The once former show dog found his new home in Manhattan and quickly became le chien de l’heure. To amplify his posh status, Snowdon-Jones went back to Gibear’s Belgian roots, donning him a French name (pronounced gee-bear). The two continue to work for Engine Company 44 and will also take part in Cesar Millan’s Charity Event for the Millan Foundation in New York.

Much like his mum, “everyone knows Gibear.” When Gibear walks into Barney’s, the whole staff says hello. Snowdon-Jones doesn’t need to dress him up, in fact, she’d much prefer to be seen with him, telling us “he goes with every outfit for God’s sake!” The two look stunning together and even share the same birthday, although they might not share the same taste in food. While Gibear is “obsessed with carrots,” he also enjoys chewing gum – the kind that’s already been chewed. “He can spot it a mile away and find it like a truffle” she tells us, adding “please people, dispose of your gum in a responsible fashion!”

If Gibear were a celebrity, it would be James Taylor. Snowdon-Jones tells us they’re both “heartbreaking and wonderful,” adding that she “sleeps with Gibear every night like [she would with] James Taylor.” Yes, Gibear has one special life. He even finds time for dancing. Perhaps he is most eligible in what he has taught his mom. Although she rescued him, she says “I can’t tell you how often he repaid the favor and rescued me since.” To Snowdon-Jones, “dogs are consistent, always happy to see you and will always lift your spirit. Talk about unconditional love, there is nothing better than a dog.”
