Where’s Lucky?
Where else would she be but on my lap, relaxing before we venture out for the day! Who says dogs do not like to travel or are not easy to travel with? Granted, Lucky is only 6 pounds and is always ready to jump in her dog bag to discover a new place! For this travel issue, Lucky and I went across the Atlantic to St. Petersburg, Russia and south of the border to Mexico, where I realized where the saying “it’s a dog’s life!” came from. Even though I have always been enamored with the French and their love for dogs, they have a little competition. Lucky and I have found many other destinations where dogs are treated as well as, if not even better than their human companions! For instance, Russians exclaim that their dogs are free as they are! Where else in the world can you sit in a Pizza Hut or a fine restaurant with your dog, and see your Russian waitress smile and sit down to pet the dog?
In Mexico, there are probably as many Chihuahuas as there are machismos! Lucky and I have been traveling together all over this world for the last 5 years. She is a very blessed dog to have these incredible adventures, but I am just as blessed to have a traveling companion who is as warm as the Florida sun and as sweet as Swiss chocolate. She never barks on the plane as the children are crying, she has no problem being under my seat, and honestly, has absolutely no problem with airline food. I, on the other hand, can’t eat the food, dream of being in first class, and complain the whole way if I do not get a window seat.
After experiencing many places around the world and the country, Lucky and I decided it was time to compile our travel expertise and share it with friends and dogs around the world. We are proud to announce the first annual Five Dog Bone Awards. This prestigious honor is awarded to hotels, resorts, animal shelters, pet products, airlines and destinations that live up to the highest in canine quality. Since Lucky never travels alone (believe me sometimes carrying a dog bag is not so bad), these awards are given to establishments that achieve the finest in human and dog hospitality. Congratulations to our 2004 winners! We hope our fellow animal lovers enjoy this issue and have the chance to experience these wonderful places with their pets. But, if you can’t travel too far, there is always a local dog run, fire hydrant or park you and your dog can discover together!
