Christian Bale is not a psycho

Intense film star Christian Bale is carving a place in Hollywood as a dangerous sex symbol. He stars in the much-anticipated “American Psycho,” based on Bret Easton Ellis’ novel of the same name. At one time, it was reported that Bale was being replaced by teen idol Leonardo DiCaprio, but when the “Titanic” star dropped out over the controversy stirred by the film’s violence, Bale stepped back in.

The easy-going Bale is nothing like the Patrick Bateman character in the movie, a man who is not considerate towards domesticated animals (or other living things). Bale is the proud owner of several cats, a few rescued dogs, and a whole menagerie of slightly more uncommon animals, including possums, all living in his beach-side home in Southern California.

Bale takes animal rights seriously and is affiliated with the Ark Trust, PETA, the Diane Fossey Gorilla Fund, and many other animal-related organizations.

Christian’s big screen appearance came in 1987, with a starring role in Steven Spielberg’s “Empire of the Sun.” He has appeared in a variety of films since then, including most recently “Portrait of a Lady,” “Metroland,” “Velvet Goldmine,” and 1999’s “A Midsummer Night’s Dream.”

Christian Bale will also be starring in the upcoming John Singleton film, “Shaft Returns,” due out later this year.
