So you’ve noticed that your cat’s meow sounds more like a yawn and you want to pep up your house with some fun ideas. Here are some helpful tips from Bob Walker and Francis Mooney on the do’s and don’ts of kitty design:
– A good interior cat design should provide plenty of observation areas for viewing birds, moths and flies outside; the more flying objects, the better!
– Make carpeted ramps and stairs for aged, less-frisky felines, and scratching columns for the more adventurous ones. No matter how well designed your path is, some cats will be road hogs. For multi-cat households, always provide two or more ways to get up to and down from the catwalk.
– Every cat owner knows how much a cat loves a hug, but overhead paths should not hug your walls. Turn-around space is needed on the walkways’ sides, especially for wide-bodied cats. When calculating the size of wall openings, plan for expanding feline waistlines. Otherwise, you’ll have to either make the openings larger later, or put your kitties on diets (and face it: nobody likes dieting). Remember, you can never do too much for your loved ones!
