Winter is here, and just like everyone’s favorite snowman, beauty products have turned a little “frosssty”.
With gift-giving behind you (or almost) you can spend a little time and money on yourself. Let’s face it, you didn’t get all the things that you wanted this year, but didn’t you deserve them? Here are some must-haves for the season!
City of Lights: Candles are essential this time of year, and Manuel Canovas’ candles are simply the best. My personal favorites are Bois de Lune, an earthy, woody, scent that reminds me of a romp by the fireplace with a brandy snifter and a cigar, Opus Ineertum, which evokes everything fresh, and new, like green tea and the smell of freshly mowed grass, and Fleur de Coton, which is like the smell of the first flowers blooming in the spring. (Why wait, when you can have it right now?) Available at Saks 5th Avenue and Gracious Home, Small ($20), Medium ($45), Large ($60).
Face It: This year’s winter face is fresh and shimmery. MAC’s new, Snowgirl line is one of the coolest collections to hit the shelves. Look for the sheer shimmer powder in “Pink Flurry” ($16), it can be used as a blusher or as a highlighter on the eyes. All over gloss in “Frost Warming” ($15), will warm anyone right up, and directions say it can be used “all over.” Oh my!
S.W.A.K.: The new lip glass color in “Snowgirl,” is a glittery frost ($13), making your lips delightfully kissable. Add to your favorite lipstick or try it with one of the new MAC lip shades. Try “Spice-ickle,” a Cinnamon spice color ($14), great on its own and dazzling with the “Snowgirl” lip glass over it.
Prada’s new Lip Tints Beauty Box ($42) is another great new item. Look for the mini case containing all five shades of Shielding Balm SPF15, plus a limited-edition lip balm in classic red. Perfect for ski and après ski! And to minimize the guilt, when the lip tints are all gone, the little case makes a great jewelry box.
Eye Spy: Mascara is a definite must this time of year and there are many to choose from. These days, brush design is the key to great lashes. Christian Dior’s Maximeyes, has a square brush and hollow fibers that deposit a lot of mascara in just one coat. Estee Lauder’s Illusionist ($20) has maximum curling benefits, as does the new one from Clarins, called PureCurl mascara ($19.50). Nothing says glamour more than gorgeous lashes!
Underneath it all: If you haven’t got a jar of Crème de la Mer yet, it’s about time that you do. When Dr. Max Huber created this wonder potion in 1965 he could not have ever forseen the success or the worldwide recognition it would achieve. In the fall of 2001, the Face Serum was introduced and has now become an integral part of the skin regime. A lightweight elixir loaded with minerals, it helps to impact the skin with essential ingredients to improve clarity and tone and to brighten the complexion as the appearance of discoloration is greatly reduced. Last but not least is The Eye Balm, so potent that it can also be used around the mouth to minimize the appearance of fine lines and tell tale signs of ageing. The cold weather can be tough on the skin, so don’t forget this winter trio! It’s like finding the fountain of youth! Crème de la Mer line available at Saks 5th Avenue, Neiman Marcus, and Bergdorf Goodman. Crème de la Mer, 1 oz. $90; 2 oz. $165; 16 oz. $1000; Eye Balm, $100; Face Serum, $175.
Hoping for an early thaw? Be on the lookout this spring for new little treasures from Estee Lauder. Little jeweled boxes of Pure Color EyeShadow, and a great new blush idea “Blush Petals”, that actually look like rose petals in the container. Check it out, it’s ‘Pure Eden.” Pure Color Eyeshadow $20. Pure Eden Blush Petals $25.
