Adopt And Love Your Pet! Today Is National Pet Day!

Today is National Pet Day! After its success of 2012, National Pet Day returns! This is the day to celebrate, even more than usual, the love that our pets bring in our lives!

Sadly, this day has been set up to raise awareness on a dramatic issue: homeless animals. In the U.S., 16,000 animals a day die in shelters. This has to stop! Many beautiful pets have been abandoned, neglected, abused or unloved and end up in shelters by no fault of their own. And many never make it out alive.

This event was set up to encourage people to adopt from a local humane society or animal shelter but also shines the spotlight of the horrors of the puppy mills.  It is estimated there are between 8,000 and 10,000 puppy mills in America today. While some animals in pet stores come from responsible breeders, most of them don’t. By refusing to purchase animals from pet stores, the cruel and inhumane puppy mill businesses will go out of business.

Shelters all around the country are in cruel need of funding. If one million people in America donated $1 dollar a month, it would mean 12 million dollars raised altogether! If we all made a little effort, we could make a real difference!

How to celebrate this special day:

–            Do something special for your pet today.

–            Make a donation to a pet welfare organization. It can be monetary, or some goods such are blankets, toys, cat litter or food.

–            Consider adopting an animal in need in your local shelter, if you can’t adopt, consider fostering!
