Cats of the Costa Del Sol – Torremolinos, Spain

In Torremolinos, Spain, the sun shines brightly, on average, 320 days of the year. This glamorous resort town in Costa del Sol, which is now a favorite spot for a wild (some say “hedonistic”) crowd, was once a small fishing village. Today it boasts luxury beachfront hotels, world-class restaurants and, of course, beautiful sandy beaches. But jet setters share their sand with unlikely companions: an assortment of homeless cats.

A walk along the beach will bring you to the sea wall where cats of all shapes and sizes can be found lounging on rocks, soaking up the sun. Like the tourists from England, France and the United States, these feline frolickers in Torremolinos often find comfort in the yellow and white-striped lounge chairs, and frequent the many oceanfront restaurants.

These uninvited guests, unlike their high-paying two-legged counterparts, are often chased away from these favorite spots, only to return in search of sunshine and a good meal. No doubt they are encouraged by friendly tourists and generous local residents who treat them to nourishment and keep them coming back for more, while the beautiful weather supplies plenty of warm rays to keep a cat cozy.
