Women & Cats: the History of a Love Affair complied by Michelle Lovric explores the relationship between cats and women. The book consists of writers and poets who talk about this simpatico relationship. The book does not only mention the binding relationship between the cat and women. It is not simply an animal; a cat symbolizes much more. What does a cat mean to you?

French writer, Adele Michelet says, “When we were children each of us had a cat. It was grand when we gathered round the fire, and the cats, in gala fur, beautifully clean and sleek, sat majestically under the master’s chair.” It was very common for girls to get cats as gifts, when they were little children. They weren’t usually given dogs as pets. It was common knowledge that cats are more feminine and therefore perfect for the female gender.

According to John Simon, he says “I have found my love of cats most helpful in understanding women.” There seems to be some type of special relationship between a cat and women, a quiet mutual respect and understanding. This definitely should be taken as a compliment. Cats can be very loving and caring. They carry a certain feminine representation. When no one hears the word feline, they instantly think of a female!. Both women and cats share the same distinct qualities of grace and elegance.
