The capital of country music is also a puppy lover’s paradise, with pet friendly attractions such as Centennial Dog Park where doggie members can run to their hearts content in a safely fenced off three acre area which includes a play area and canine drinking fountains. In this dog friendly city the music is about to meet the mutts at a very special event organized by the Nashville Humane Association (NHA).
What is the NHA?
The NHA has been around in Nashville since 1946 and from its origins with the protection of working horses, now concentrates on the welfare of cats and dogs. Their mission “We are committed to finding responsible homes, controlling per overpopulation and promoting the humane treatment of animals.”
Why is fundraising so important?
The NHA does a fantastic job looking after the kittens and puppies that need help, but care costs, and the organization is not government funded; it relies on the generosity of donors such as the Patton-Ingrams, and fundraising events.
The country style of the NHA
Think Nashville and you of course think country music; and the country music glitterati certainly love the NHA. Clint Black and Lisa Hartman-Black adopted a dog from the NHA, whose shelter name was Butter. Amy Grant has adopted more than once; two kittens, one of whom was named Wendy. If you’ve been around the NHA the you may have spotted Kenny Chesney, who is a regular visitor. The center has also been lucky enough to get a visit from celebrity couple Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban. Recently the NHA played host to Brett Eldredge who took time out from his busy recording career to get himself some major puppy love.
The Mandrell Sisters at Unleashed
The country theme continues with the latest exciting fundraising news from the NHA. On January 31 2015, the Hutton Hotel, Nashville, is the venue for the 5th annual Unleashed dinner. This year’s event is particularly special as it’s hosted by the Mandrell Sisters; Barbara, Louise and Irlene will be appearing onstage together for the first time in 32 years.
Human guests are encouraged to come accompanied by their canine companions, to the full course dinner, with the event also featuring a not to be missed catwalk (or maybe we should say dogwalk) show. The stars of this show will be some of the adorable doggies that are available for adoption from the NHA. Guests can also experience the excitement of a silent and live auction. Commenting, Barbara Mandrell said;
“The greatest joy in my life is family and my family would not be complete without my animals.”
If you want to join Barbara in supporting the animals, by supporting the NHA, you can get your tickets today to celebrate their amazing work at http://nashvillehumane.org/
