Season 5 of Games of Thrones airs tonight on HBO – 9 P/E, with the first episode titled; The War To Come. The breed used to portray the “direwolves” are in dire trouble, and in a war to survive of their very own.
Siberian Huskies and Alaskan Malamutes have always been famous for their similarity to wolves. Books and stories like Call of The Wild and Balto have pulled on the hearts of their readers and viewers for generations and now the “direwolves” of Game of Thrones and the werewolves of Twilight are making the breed even more popular. This sounds wonderful. Who doesn’t want more adorable dogs around? But it is really a huge problem!
What many of those who want to bring a husky or malamute into his or her life fail to realize though, is that these dogs are very high energy. This simply makes them not the best choice for every lifestyle, which has led to a 420% increase in husky breed abandonment since 2008.
The problem of irresponsible ownership must be faced and these huskies need homes – so, while you’re watching the Game of Thrones, think of the real “direwolf” puppies and, if you have the space for one of these blessings in your life, plan a trip to your local humane society!
Huskies are friendly and energetic dogs. They’re perfect for active families, particularly if they have lots of space.
