WASHINGTON, D.C.—The beginning of spring, complete with the blooming of cherry blossoms and the annual White House Correspondents Dinner, never fails to spur a lot of buzz in the countries largest political hub. It is the time of year when Washington’s most elite social and political parties meet, greet and mingle with Hollywood’s biggest celebrities. Awe-inspiring events commenced at the Hilton Washington over a star-studded five-day span.
Animalfair.com hosted their 2nd Annual White House Pet Correspondents Benefit with P2V to honor our Nation’s heroes and sheltered pets. This monumental benefit was held at Oprah’s chef Art Smith’s Art & Soul’s Pooch Patio restaurant at The Liaison Capitol Hill Hotel and included several special guests—the stars of TLC’s DC Cupcakes, Sophie LaMontagne, Katherine Kallinis, John McLaughlin, Adam Falkoff, John Arundel, Peter Mirijanian, Miss Washington DC Jen Corey, Christa Ventikos, John McCaslin, Alex Mehrnaz Naini, Allison Priebe Brooks, Angie Goff and Cheryl Romero. To boot, Art & Souls Pooch Patio featured a special Doggie Menu just for the event serving treats, canine drink medleys, and 3oz./6oz. steaks. Needless to say, Lucky got quite the treat of hobnobbing with DC heavyweights!
Art Smith, Oprah’s personal chef for a decade, and now the owner of Art & Soul restaurant entertained us with answering some questions about his canine sidekicks. Art, like Oprah is a fan of our four legged family members and has three dogs of his own—two American Staffordshires named Link and Tron and one French Bull Dog named Cochon. During an exclusive interview with Lucky (woof-woof), Art revealed that he cooks for his dogs and that they, “adore cooked egg yolks for breakfast every AM” in fact his “dogs favorite dish of his is his Reunion Chicken and Rice from his best-selling cook book Back to the Table”. Yum! Art’s dogs have even met President Obama and his family—Art exclaims, “we are neighbors in Chicago”.
The weekend was full of fun for Lucky with the pleasure of having tea with Sarah and Todd Palin, Chelsea Handler sans Chunk, Buzz Aldrin, Chace Crawford, Fox News’ s Greta Van Susteren, Barry Diller, Buzz Aldrin, David and Susan Axelrod, Bill Daley, and Arianna Huffington, Mike Mills (REM), Mira Sorvino, Joan Rivers, Rupert Murdoch, Sally Quinn, for the White House Correspondents brunch which took place in the gardens of Mark Ein, Washington Kastles owner and businessman. Whether Democrat or Republican everyone falls in love with Lucky and Georgetown Cupcakes who both were everywhere during the weeked. The White House Correspondents Garden Brunch supported the work of CURE Epilepsy and The White Ribbon Alliance, two phenomenal charities working towards the greater good. Bo Obama must have been stuck in the white doghouse as he was not seen all weekend!
Guess whom else Lucky met at this A-list event? The comedian extraordinaire, Chelsea Handler, host and TV personality of Chelsea Lateley.
At the Reuters and John McLaughlin White House Brunch at the Hay Adams, Lucky, also ran into her dear friend Ambassador Ron Kirk, the 16th United States Trade Representative appointed by President Obama himself!
The Whites House Correspondent Dinner came to an appropriate close at John McLaughlin’s brunch on Sunday at the Hay Adams Hotel rooftop, a grand affair hosted by Reuters and McLaughlin himself of “The McLaughlin Group”.
What a fabulous event! Even Lucky appeared sleepy after all the grand festivities. Yet, once back in NYC, Lucky’s ears immediately perked up as always to the sound of traffic whizzing by a she trotted along back to the office to continue advocating for all of her furry friends. Back to NYC and all its grandeur—bark, bark!
