Elephants are known for their keen memories;  therefore it’s safe to say if you start dating one, it won’t forget to send you a romantic card on special occasions like your birthday or Valentine’s Day! “Ele-Dating”, the new dating website for restless humans and lonesome elephants was recently launched by Elephant Family, the UK’s only endangered Asian elephant charitable organization.

This unique internet-dating site raises money for endangered elephants in Indonesia and India by charging a fee to sponsor and court an elephant heartbreaker. The site features head shots, quirky profiles and the chance to “date a hero” – elephants that are undertaking the dangerous clean-up operations in the Tsunami region. The participants in “Ele-Dating” receive bedside photos, personalized love letters and a Valentine’s card from their elephant paramours.

A celebrity love match includes recently separated Kate Moss who is rumored to be dating Dargo, the charming upper-class smoothie. The most expensive eligible date is with world-famous Tara, of Travels On My Elephant, written by Mark Shand (Duchess of Cornwall–Camilla Parker-Bowles’ brother). $3,500 will buy a year’s worth of dating with this celeb elephant and the chance to bath and pamper her on an amazing visit to her palatial residence–Kipling Camp in India.

There's a perfect elephant match for any who wants to make a difference.

Mark Shand, also a trustee of Elephant Family, comments: “It was love at first sight with Tara. When I first saw her, my mouth went dry and I felt giddy and breathless. With one hind leg crossed over the other, she was leaning nonchalantly against a tree, the charms of her perfectly rounded posterior in full view. I knew then I had to have her. If my experience is anything to go by, this new scheme will get a lot of hearts racing.”

Elephant Family counts among its patrons the Rajmata of Jaipur, former Beatles producer Sir George Martin, Hollywood actress Goldie Hawn and Sir Evelyn de Rothschild.

“Asian elephants are intelligent and compassionate creatures who deserve all our help,” says Ruth Powys, Elephant Family’s Communications Manager.
