The fundraising programs for the Lakers Youth Foundation include Read to Achieve, YMCA Jr., Lakers Shooting Sparks league and It’s time For Kids among other programs. The fundraising supports financial assistance for children.
On behalf of the Los Angeles Lakers Youth Foundation on September 19th, 2005, The team joined up with Ralphs Grocery Company and the Amanda Foundation to create a unique 2005-2006 calendar.
The calendars feature photos of the players with their favorite dogs from the Amanda Foundation dogs, are only available at Ralphs Grocery Store locations. Kobe Bryant was one of the players who took pictures for the calendar. The dogs that the players posed with are in need of a home of their own. A portion of the proceeds of the calendars will go directly to the Lakers Youth Foundation.
When Luke Walton, fellow Laker and son of former basketball great and current ESPN analyst Bill Walton, was asked what type of breed Kobe Bryant is, he remarked, “An Italian Greyhound, he’s fast, agile and you never know where he’s going to spring to on the court.”
“Shooting the photos for this calendar was a lot of fun for the whole team. I’ve always loved dogs!” said Luke Walton.
The Amanda Foundation is a nonprofit organization that has rescued dogs and cats that do not have homes since 1976. In addition to the proceeds that are going to the Lakers Youth Foundation, the team made a donation to the Amanda Foundation.
