My friends in the beauty and fashion industry are always on the run – flying across the country for work and for leisure. I was curious what their ‘never leave home without’ favorites and travel tips were. Here are some of the great tips they shared with me…along with a few of my own.
“I always take a face spray – especially if I am going by air – to hydrate my face.” Jill, booker at the Cloutier Agency
I cannot recommend a hydrating face spray enough. Throughout your flight, spritz your face every hour, and when possible, mix with a moisturizer. When using the ORIGINS SPRINKLER SYSTEM, (one of my favorites) rose and orange blossom, fatigue fighting coriander and moisture binding minerals feel right as rain as they cool, comfort and refresh dehydrated skin. Your skin will get a rousing and revitalizing moisture shower without dampening your appearance. Not only for air travel, a face spray is also a perfect companion for a long drive.
“Candles, to personalize the hotel room.” Madeline Leonard, executive, frequent traveler and mom
Don’t underestimate the power of candles. Fragrant candles or incense can make a standard room look and feel luxurious.
The first thing that I do when I walk into a hotel room is open the windows in order to eliminate the strong smell of cleansers. Then I use room sprays during the day and candles in the evening by the bath or on the dresser, to give the room a warm glow. BODY SHOP’s extensive line of PILLOW SPRAYS, TRAVEL CANDLES and ROOM SPRAY including KAPHA=EARTH PILLOW SPRAY (relaxes and restores balance), will have you dreaming you are on a Caribbean island, with not a care in the world.
“Zip lock freezer bags – a million different uses; always come in handy.” Bill Swann, fashion editor
This is a great solution to organize every traveler’s needs. Baggies are perfect for storage, especially for items that are prone to spill or break, like room sprays, makeup, incense, candles, facial soaps, and other souvenirs. When traveling for days, weeks or even months, everything can remain packed in your baggies, ready to be tossed back in your suitcase. In one baggie, I keep the very basic face care items. Since most hotels do not have a good face soap, always bring your own. I suggest the compact-sized ORIGINS ‘CREAM BAR’ FACE SOAP and ORIGINS ‘NO PUFFERY’ 30-day solution for puffy eyes.
“The book, On the Road Again With Man’s Best Friend, by Dawn and Robert Hapgood, so that my dogs can stay with me everywhere I go.” Chantal Cloutier
“A favorite wine, champagne, or cocktail and my own pillow.” Lynne Giler, script writer
“I never leave home without a picture of my dog, earplugs, an eye mask and concealer. What more could you need!” Collier Strong, Cloutier makeup artist and spokes-peson for L’oreal
CALVIN KLEIN TRANSLUCENT LOOSE POWDER
I receive the most compliments on my skin when I am wearing L’Oreal FEEL NATURALE LIGHT SOFTENING ONE-STEP MAKEUP WITH SPF 15. This foundation is so smooth when you apply it that it makes blending easy. It stays on perfectly all day and evening.
L’oreal 3D Mascara
A great red lipstick by REVLON
CLARINS MULTI BLUSH for cheeks. eyes and lips
A nude lipstick by LORAC
Two basic lip pencils; a nude and a red by LORAC (www.loraccosmetics.com) – They are long-lasting and creamy enough to not dry out your lips, and they blend in perfectly with your skin.
“My LORAC LIP PENCILS #3, #4, #6, AND #18 are easy, wearable shades for everyone,” says Carol Shaw, founder
During the daytime, when I don’t want to wear makeup, I apply CLARINS SUN WRINKLE CONTROL CREAM ULTRA PROTECTION 35 SPF and CLARINS SUN BLOCK STICK FOR ULTRA PROTECTION FOR SUN-SENSITIVE AREAS. To remove makeup, CLARINS ONE-STEP FACIAL CLEANSER- It cleanses, detoxifies, tones and refreshes and is for all skin types.
ALTERNAS HEMP SEED TEXTURIZING GLAZE – It can be used on short or long hair and provides texture and nutritive extracts. Though designed for curly hair, it has become a favorite among those with stick-straight hair, providing body, heat protection and great texture.
ALTERNAS HEMP SEED SPRAY SHINE – It provides incredible shine, can be used throughout the day as a freshener and is perfect on all hair types.
Part of travel is the art of letting go and just being one with the place you are going…Some of the above items will make your future travels a little easier and even more fun-and will add some atmosphere and a little bit of ‘you’ to an otherwise impersonal hotel room. Other favorite travel items include a great CD, a favorite book, and an empty suitcase to bring home some of your discoveries.
