Roma Maffia currently stars on the hit FX drama, Nip Tuck. She portrays the opinionated lesbian anesthesiologist, Dr. Liz Cruz, which is quickly making her a household name. Fans may recognize Roma as Michael Douglas’ sharp-shooting lawyer in Disclosure,  or the Cuban-born forensic scientist on the television show Profiler. Maffia was also a regular guest on two acclaimed television series, Law and Order and Chicago Hope. Animal Fair spent some time with the actress and her two dogs.

AF: Tell us about your two partners in crime.

RM: This is Lucky and Loulu. I like to deal in the L’s. Lucky is two and a half years old. He is part Coyote, part Golden Retriever. Really pretty dog. He talks all the time. Loulu is part Terrier, part Chihuahua. She is eight-years-old. I think she’s human, she’s an old soul. They both love each other. I’m so fortunate. Loulu is nuts. She’s a tough chick. She’ll attack anything, it doesn’t matter what it is.

AF: Any funny stories you’d like to share?

RM: Loulu is the quirky one. She is all of twelve pounds, but she has been 86’d from the dog park. She was trying to bite the other dogs. If she knows you, she’s fine. If she doesn’t, she’ll attack. She was abused … both my dogs are rescues.

AF: Do you travel with your pets?

RM: Not so much anymore. I had a job in Canada and I

took Loulu with me. We were on the plane and she was in my lap. Well, she peed on me and the guy sitting next to me! He wasn’t too happy, I must say. I don’t like to fly, so I didn’t even notice he was wet. Loulu is the type of dog, if we were walking down the street, she’d hop into the car with someone else. Lucky wouldn’t go off like that, but he would get lost trying to find the woods. I love them both for different reasons.

AF: You are on the edgy FX drama, Nip Tuck. Are you having a good time?

RM: Nip Tuck is great fun. It’s such a unique show. Thmaterial is exciting territory. My favorite part about being an actress is getting the opportunity to play different roles. I love that. But don’t be fooled, this industry is insanely difficult. If you love it, stay with it. If you don’t, get out.

AF: What would be your ideal breed of man?

RM: I would say, a mutt. He would be smart, funny, he’d love to play. and he’s know how to take orders!
