Animal Fair Attends The Westminster Kennel Club 132nd Dog Show ?And Meets Numero “Uno”!
Animal Fair would never miss one of New York City’s biggest dog events and we were there to cover The Westminster Kennel Club 132nd Annual Dog Show at Madison Square Garden! “Ch K-Run’s Park Me in First” a.k.a “Uno”, the Beagle who took home the big bone was awarded 2008 Best In Show! Judges had the joy and task of judging over 169 breeds and varieties. The Westminster Kennel Club partnered up with Saks Fifth Avenue, and the 50th Street store windows dressed-up different dog categories represented in the show! Westminster is unique from any other dog show in the world, because of its howling New York City history. WKC’s show was established in 1877, held at the Gilmore’s Garden, and had 1,201 dogs enter. Westminster gets its name from an old Manhattan hotel (no longer in business) where sportsmen gathered, talked shop and eventually formed a dog club called, The Westminster Breeding Association. They bought a training area, kennel, and created The First Annual New York Bench Show of Dogs which was a huge hit and the rest is hound history!
