The pictures, though, have taken on a life of their own. The unique juxtaposition of the animals indomitable spirit and the urbane elegance of the sets and models has captured a far wider audience. Photos from the series have been featured in fundraising campaigns for local groups likeThe Humane Society of Dallas County, Texas Tails Rescue Ranch, Heart of Texas, and Weimaraner Rescue of North Texas. Moreover, these crisp and subtle pictures have found their way into national campaigns for such organizations as Greyhounds Unlimited, Pets Mart Charities, and the North Shore Animal League of America.
Spurred by this remarkable success, Grisham and wife, Janet, founded WOOF, a non-profit which promotes animal rescue by capturing the beauty and tenacity of castaway dogs and cats. Currently, Joe is working on citywide billboard campaign with Dallas metro transit. The campaign features policemen, firemen and sanitation workers posing with abandoned animals. “I just hope these images touch people and, in the process, the animals we’ve chosen to share our lives with. Joe says, I hope these images remind us what dogs bring to our lives, and the absolute trust they place in us.”
They do, Joe. They do. And they do it with style.
