For some girls, there is no greater thrill than winning a beauty pageant. For others, it’s getting an opportunity to be a video jockey on the ever-popular television network, MTV. But for Susie Castillo both of these dreams had become a reality when she was crowned Miss USA in 2003 and when she became the host of MTV’s, “Total Request Live.”
As a celebrity, much of Susie’s time is spent traveling. Going along for the ride are Susie’s two pet Chihuahuas, Lupe and Oscar. But why Chihuahuas?
“When I decided to get a dog I wanted one that was portable so I could take it with me…it just works out well.”
And while both dogs are Chihuahuas, they each have their own personality. Lupe, for instance, is a very outgoing dog that isn’t afraid being in the spotlight. In many ways, Lupe reminds Susie of celebrity actress, Reese Witherspoon.
“I’ve never met her [Reese] before but she seems really sweet, she is family oriented, which Lupe is. She’s not afraid of the paparazzi, or the red carpet and that is totally Lupe’s personality.”
As for Oscar, I guess one might say that he’s better suited for life behind the camera. At five months old (Lupe’s thirteen months) Oscar is very timid and has less confidence than Lupe. To this, Susie jokingly suggested that Oscar read her new book, “Confidence is Queen: Four Keys to Ultimate Beauty Through Positive Thinking.”
Growing up in a low-income community, Susie fought her way up to the top by following what she later realized were four essential keys to success.
