Italian born Franco Scalamandré arrived in America in 1923 at the age of twenty-six, with one good suit and a dream. He fled his homeland in fear of imprisonment after a confrontation with Benito Mussolini. Scalamandré began a new life in the land of opportunity and seventy-five years later, his name is synonymous with refined good taste and stunning quality .
After much adversity, Scalamandré’s hard work and perseverance paid off, he purchased a factory in Long Island City, New York to greater produce and manufacture fine silks. Scalamandré designing claims to fame include historic restoration, designing pieces for the White House and the Philadelphia Congress Hall.
Franco Scalamandré and his wife Flora, created an explosion of colors and subtleties with their silks. It is evident through the family’s legacy and longevity, that Scalamandré fabrics will grace homes with pet-friendly living quarters and unique style for many generations of design and dog enthusiasts in the future.
