Remember How Much Fun Camp Was? We Do!
The campfires, the ghost stories, the roasted marshmallows…nothing was more exciting than getting away from your parents and homework! And even now, as adults, we manage to escape the hustle and bustle of every day life now and then. But, what about our dogs? Our furry companions who provide us with daily love and companionship could sure use a break as well!
Whether you’re jet-setting to Europe or suffering the daily grind of your office, your pooch can be having a blast, playing with other dogs as opposed to being trapped in a crate – or worse, tearing apart your brand new sofa!
That’s where Heidi Flammang, Camp Bow Wow’s owner and Top Dog, comes in! This leading day and overnight boarding camp provides a safe and playful environment for your pet to romp and frolic. And let’s face it, as much as we all love our dogs, the occasional evening off from walks and ball-throwing can be quite the relief!
Flammang’s father owned a business right next door to one of the first doggy day care facilities in the Western United States. “I’ve always loved dogs,” says Flammang, who has three dogs of her own, “and I loved the idea of having a boarding alternative as opposed to harsh kennels!” She and her husband wrote an extensive business plan together, plotting out the specifics of Camp Bow Wow. However, her career in pharmaceuticals always prevented she and her husband from living out their dream. Then, after the tragic and unexpected passing of her husband, she decided there was no better time to make her dream a reality. “It was a great way of honoring him – to build our dream together.”
If you decide to send your pup to one of the camps (which are franchised all over the United States!), your canine camper will have his own individual and spacious climate controlled cabin where meals will be served and naptimes are administered. The mornings are spent playing and socializing with other dogs of the same size and temperament. Then, a scrumptious lunch is served back in the cabins. After a leisurely nap, the Camp’s counselors, all of whom are certified, trained in Pet First Aid, dog behavior, and canine CPR, initiate more play time, including a game of tag! After dinner, overnight campers get a “campfire” treat to curl up with on their soft fleece cot to help ease separation anxiety.
With 24-hour web cams for you to watch your dog’s playtime, you’ll find yourself longing for those days sitting around the campfire! Perhaps your pooch will inspire you to rediscover the great outdoors and the joys of camping, yourself!
