An ideal mate for an athletic child would be a Labrador Retriever. They love children, are extremely athletic and want to be included in just about every physical activity your child partakes in. Boxers are also wildly athletic and are known for having a strong bond with children of all ages. For smaller sized, athletic dogs the more active medium-size sporting dogs, such as Cocker Spaniels and English Cocker Spaniels work well for active children.” An athletic child might want to steer clear of a Bulldog, who is not very active and prefers sleeping and eating to walking and running.

Shih Tzus and Bichon Frises love all children, play and handle play with a great attitude as well so they are great matches for the creative type. A breed to avoid for the artistic child would be a Chow Chow, who does not engage well with strangers and is not very active.

can enhance their inner prodigy with a best friend who matches their mental wavelength. The Standard Poodle is a perfect match for an intelligent child. Known as a “thinking” dog, Standard Poodles crave mental stimulation as part of their well-being. Similarly, Border Collies and Rottweilers are known some of the smartest breeds out there, but they have a herding instinct, which may be difficult and dangerous to introduce to children too young to understand their nature. Breeds to avoid would be the Blood Hound, Basset Hound and Afghan Hound strictly because the hound groups are known for being less than intelligent and therefore less than stimulating for your poindexter at home.
