Maureen Griffin Balsbaugh started her company Griffin Balsbaugh Interiors seven years ago and has been on a roll ever since. Based out of Boston and New York City, she specializes in residential and commercial interior design. Maureen explains, “I’ve always been passionate about design. I started out in the clothing design business. I designed jeans, then I moved into children’s clothing. I started taking extra classes and decided to go full force with interior design. I ended up buying a house and renovated it completely. I was hooked! What I love most about my job is the client interaction. You meet new clients every day and truly become a part of their lives. I’m so proud of all my projects. I’ve worked in Palm Beach, LA, NYC, Nantucket, Boston. It’s a nice creative outlet to have. Many of my clients have pets, so when I do renovations, I make sure we incorporate the animals into the design process. Fabrics, flooring, carpet, etc. The dog beds need to coordinate with the kitchen, living room, drapes, you name it! We want everything to go with the theme of the house. Dogs are part of the family too.”
Griffin Balsbaugh has her own canine companion at home that she adores. “I have a six-year-old Golden Retriever named Dublin and she is the love of my life. I take her everywhere with me! She is just amazing. Dublin is very girlie. She doesn’t like to get dirty or roll around in the dirt. In fact, she loves taking baths, going into the water and swimming. She’s such a huge part of my life. She comes with me to work and is the perfect companion to have around. I don’t have children, Dublin is my child! It’s so nice to know she’s at my feet under my desk. There is a very social aspect that comes with having a dog. I meet so many people. Dog people have their own world and their own language. It’s great. She sleeps in my bed every night. She’s spoiled. If you can’t spoil your dog, who can you spoil? We totally dress her up. Dublin’s favorite designers are Lori and Richard Stark. They have an amazing company called Chrome Hearts. She has a sweater that she just loves for winter. She gets crazy in the snow with it!”
Dublin is quite the little rascal. Don’t let her puppy-dog eyes fool you! Griffin Balsbaugh declares, “Dublin is a dog snob! She only likes Central Park Upper East Side dogs! She loves organic dog food, only the best for my baby. It’s hilarious, she’s usually very well behaved, but at the beach in Nantucket, she’ll stake out three-year-old kids for peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. Oh yes, at the beach she thinks she’s the queen of the island!”
