Maria Sharapova causes a racket in the United States as she exhibits her talent on the tennis court and impresses all. As the fifth youngest female to hold the number one spot and the first Russian to claim the number one ranking in the world, she continues to show her strength as a champion. Since age four, Sharapova has shown athletic talent, naturally displaying her skills with a tennis racquet. She participated in her first professional tournament in April 2001, her first Sony Ericsson WTA Tour tournament in 2002, and the 2004 Wimbledon Championship, which she won after beating Serena Williams.

Sharapova’s sweet Pomeranian, Dolce, is her doubles partner throughout the tournament of her life! He keeps Sharapova company when at home relaxing and, most recently, in the public eye. Sharapova brought Dolce notoriety by featuring him in a clever Canon commercial, “make every shot a power shot”.

Not long ago, after a long Nike ad shoot, Sharapova’s mother brought Dolce over to her on set. “He’s my stress-reliever,” Sharapova commented. “Not that I was stressed, I just needed a little bit of fun.”

Sharapova came to the United States when she was seven-years-old, having being raised in the Russian City, Sochi. At the time she didn’t speak any English, but that did not deter her and early signs of determination were noted. In 1995 she was awarded a scholarship and became a full time student of IMG’s Nick Bollettieri Tennis Academy in Bradenton, Florida, where she excelled.

Sharapova is the 2006 U.S. Open champion having defeated Justine Henin. By the end of 2006, Sharapova was the world’s highest paid female athlete. In 2006, Russia’s Tennis Federation named Sharapova the country’s best female player of the year.

In addition to earning awards on the court, Sharapova has been awarded the “Hottest Female Athlete of the Year” title by Maxim magazine for four consecutive years.

Off the court and between tournaments, Sharapova travels around the world visiting health spas and shopping everywhere! She’s exceptionally fashion savvy and keeps her eye on the ball when creating her own unique clothing look.

Maria Sharapova is also an advocate for children, helping them achieve their goals and dreams with the Maria Sharapova Foundation which focuses on “at risk” children.
