Celebridog gossip is buzzing in the New York City dog parks where it seems like certain dogs are sniffing Lucky’s behind in a different way. Fortunately for me, no one is sniffing my behind.
First things first – did everyone catch Lucky and I on Living Lohan last night? I’ll say that’s one wild family, but their five dogs are even wilder. Lucky was a little embarrassed watching herself on TV fighting with the Lohan dogs, but dogs will be dogs. Being back in New York (after spending five weeks in LA Shooting Greatest American Dog) means being back to it all and it all started up at the Books For Kids Cocktail Party at Pink Elephant. Books For Kids is a fabulous foundation set up to help promote literacy in youth by purchasing books, building libraries and organizing community events.
We bumped into dog lover and gossip disher of CBS’ The Insider, Lara Spencer, who came without her Labradoodle named Harry, a rescue dog from Hurricane Katrina. Harry got his name similarly to how Lucky got hers – Lucky was Lucky and Harry was Hairy. Throughout the night Lucky seemed to hide her head in what looked like shame and I couldn’t help but wonder – why? She later told me it was because she couldn’t read – I told her that she shouldn’t be ashamed because she can read with her snout – a talent us humans will never have … and if we did … we’d see a lot less noses in books and a lot more noses up in the air (which is definitely not a good idea – especially with so many “snooty” types around). This week Lucky and I, in continuation with the kids theme, hopped on over to the Coalition For the Homeless Carnival Night for Kids in Central Park. Funny Back in LA while filming Greatest American Dog I had ran into Alec Baldwin, who does a bevy of work for the foundation, at The Grand Havana (NOTE Lucky wasn’t present because she can’t stand cigar smoke). Baldwin and I discussed our love for Mary Brosnahan – executive director of the foundation (who personally inspired me to work with both homeless pets and animals). Lucky and I were both happy to see him show up at the event in New York City, surprised everyone. Baldwin is a huge pet-lover and we hear that back when he was with Kim Basinger the couple had eleven dogs, seven cats and a wolf – that’s a full house on full moons! The event supported Camp Homeward Bound, a program to help send homeless children to summer camp as well as Bound For Success, an after school and summer day program. Lucky wasn’t so happy that she couldn’t participate in all the carnival fun, but I did let her have a taste of cotton candy, which she loved. Being away from LA left Lucky and I to see out the high seas in other ways. This time we set sail no we actually did a sit stay on the Forbes Highlander Yacht with our friend and faux-Greek cousin, Peter Diamandis. Peter still promises Lucky that she will be the first dog in zero gravity (he Is the Space guru of Zero G, http://www.gozerog.com), but the night wasn’t all about Lucky, but more so for Google co-founder Sergey Brin, who was celebrating his own launch into space. Being that we were on a yacht – High seas first, then high (outer) space I suppose. Sergey I am sure after holding Lucky will remember to google her – I would guess she has half as many hits as Lassie!
This week Lucky and I also stopped by the release for NY TIMES scribe Bob Morris’ new book Assisted Living. Lucky loved the idea of the book so much that she was thinking about writing her own spin-off novel called Assisted Petting. We chatted with Tatum O’Neil and hunky (Golden Retriever if he was a dog) Josh Lucas. We all enjoyed the evening, karaoke, and the special ukulele performance from Morris himself.
Lucky and I certainly are glad to be back in New York, but surely we miss LA and everyone at Greatest American Dog … the crew, fellow judges, makeup, hair people and all the producers everyone who made the production one of the best we have ever been on, and must say Lucky especially misses the Canine Academy grass!
