Attention Sex and the City fans! Lucky and I have the doggy dish on the long-awaited film that has everyone talking. This week Lucky and I attended a very private screening of the Sex and the City movie at New Line Cinema’s private screening room. After watching the movie I was reminded by a quote about me in The Seattle Times that said, “If Wendy Diamond were a character on Sex and the City, she’d have Carrie’s wit, Samantha’s black book and Charlotte’s affection for a pampered pooch.” It makes me laugh, but I guess it’s true. Although all my Manhattan characteristics didn’t get me a part in the movie, Lucky and I are still out in Hollywood ready for our ten week series to debut on CBS.
A new addition to the SATC cast is Gidget Gormley a “New Yorkie” who plays Samantha Jones’ (aka Kim Cattrell’s) dog, Baby. Gidget’s real-life owner is Mary Gormley one of our Entertainment Editors here at Animal Fair. Gormley has been with us since 1999… before Gidget became an overnight sensation. Gidget told Lucky she loved working with Cattrell and the two got along famously because their relationship is so believable… not to mention they had so much in common. Cattrell was quoted saying “[Gidget] was very sweet and incredibly over-prepared for her role. I particularly loved it when we had matching outfits… She did get her close-up before mine continuously, which really got in my craw but besides that, I loved working with her. It’s tough working with animals because sometimes they’ll do it and sometimes they won’t. But she was very well-trained.” It seems Gidget was so well trained that some early reviewers say Cattrell steals all the laughs with the help of her “humping dog”.
We were glad to see Kristen Davis’s character Charlotte York still has her dogs (and some kids this time around). Both Davis and Cattrell have been on the cover of Animal Fair and it’s good to know the movie is packed with so many animal lovers.
Seeing Sex and the City for the first time in years reminded us of two things: first, we miss New York… Lucky especially misses the sidewalks, she gets so confused around too much green, but she is quickly adapting to the Hollywood lifestyle (if you know what I mean). Secondly, we realized that Sex and the City and Animal Fair have had a long-standing partnership when it comes to the dogs and the new film promises to cater to Sex and the City fans and animal lovers alike! I’ll also say, however, if the women in the movie were dogs there would be a lot of dog fights and even more… humping.
We were surprised the film made a big deal about Samantha Jones turning 50. Lucky told me that that would be like announcing to the world she’s 350 in dog years. No one needs to know that, no dog nor woman! I’m not sure if the movie kept Lucky’s attention though. She did love all the humping and that dog Jason Lewis aka “Smith” Jerrod (Samantha’s boyfriend)! Lucky’s never good at keeping quiet in long movies and after two hours of the two hour, twenty minute film, she started barking and I had to keep her quiet in front of all the execs at the private screening. It’s a good thing the dogs didn’t get as many outfit changes as Sarah Jessica Parker, or the movie would have been a full three hours long!
