How’s your relationship with your favorite furry friend? No doubt it’s wonderful! Everyday pets are celebrated as they deserve!
To help you immortalize this special time in your pet’s life, here are 10 tips for designing perfect pet photos! Taking a decent photograph of your pet can be very difficult. Animals move around and many times you end up with just the tail-end in your picture! There are many factors that go into designing a perfect photo.
Here are ten ways to ensure photographs of your pet come out purrfect and adorable:)
- Make sure that your four-legged friend is comfortable in the setting. If your pet loves a certain spot on your couch or a corner of the window-sill, think about taking a photo in the preferred surroundings.
- Take a look at the setting behind and around your subject before you click the shutter. Is there something in the way or an overpowering color that you will take away from the beauty of your animal? If so, you can either remove it or simply take a close-up picture.
- Use natural daylight. Flashes can sometimes scare your pet and make them terrified of the camera. Daylight will also make your photos crisper and bring out details, such as a shiny coat, that can be masked by dimmer light.
- If you want to dress up your pet in a tutu, make sure your pet is comfortable in the costume. Take the outfit off it if you notice any sign of discomfort.
- Don’t wait for your pet to look directly into the camera. Sometimes the best pictures are candid poses. A picture of your cat yawning would have much more expression than just staring into the starring into the camera blankly.
- Observe your pet’s daily activities. If your dog does something funny try catch your pooch in the act. This would make for a unique photograph.
- Position your camera at the same level of your pets. This technique will give you photos that are filled with your pets face and not the top of its back.
- Here is an excellent tip from Petrography photographer Jim Dratfield. “Each animal is different. I have a black Lab, Caleb, now and if I bring food out, he’ll drool like a madman and that’s not a pretty sight for a photo shoot. You always find there’s something. Sometimes it’s a word, a food, a toy, you never know what it’s going to be.” Knowing your pet’s little idiosyncrasies will help to make your photo shoot a success!
- Try to tell a story through your pictures by using backgrounds and your pet’s expression.
- Have lot of treats ready! The best way to get your animal (and many humans!) to cooperate for the perfect photo is a tasty reward.
