Congrats to the champion – Serena Williams won her 19th Grand Slam title, and remains unbeaten in six Australian Open finals and extends her decade-long winning streak over Maria Sharapova with a 6-3, 7-6 (5)! Amazing feat and victory since Williams was dealing with a horrible cough on Saturday night.
In the past Williams suffered injuries and debilitating health, and underwent extensive rehabilitation for a foot injury, Serena withdrew from tournaments and On March 2, 2011, she confirmed that she had suffered a hematoma and pulmonary embolism. She didn’t reenter the tennis court until the WTA tour almost a year at the 2011 AEGON International, winning her first match since Wimbledon.
Williams is famous for her unusual and colorful outfits on and off the court. Williams designed a special clothing line with Puma and has a line with Nike Since 2004, she has also been running her own line of designer apparel under her company name “Aneres”—her first name spelled backward. In 2009 she launched a signature collection of handbags and jewelry. The collection, called Signature Statement, is can be seen and is primarily sold on the Home Shopping Network (HSN).
The two main “loves” of Serena’s life are her two dogs; a Jack Russell named Jackie and a Maltese named Lorelei.!
Animal Fair Media‘s Wendy Diamond met up with Serena Williams, and discussed her real passion in life – her dogs. She brags about her precious pups and the adventures she has with them off the court.
WD: So Serena, we know about your tennis career. Now fill us in on your dogs! Where did you get them?
SW: Well, I have two dogs now. I shouldn’t have done this, but I got it from a pet store. I always wanted a Maltese and I saw her. She just had the best personality! It was between her and a Jack Russell, but I already have a Jack Russell, Jackie, and wanted a smaller dog. I just love animals. I always think when I get older I’m going to live on a farm and have fifty dogs! I love just love dogs!
WD: Your fashion line has really taken off, will you be doing a line for pets in the future?
SW: It would be cool, to have a pet clothes line. But I’m not. My dogs don’t like to wear clothes. Every time I try to buy Jackie something, she refuses to wear it. I haven’t tried putting outfits on my Maltese, Laurelei. I think I’ll stick to people clothes for now.
WD: We know how much time you’ve spent on various tennis tours, do you ever bring your dogs along?
SW: Sometimes Jackie travels with me everywhere. But she hates tennis, so she has a lot of babysitters. Whenever I get a ball, she runs away from it. But she understands that Mom has to play tennis in order to keep food in her bowl.
WD: What was the funniest incident that happened when traveling with Jackie?
SW: She got me kicked out of this really big hotel once. She has anxiety when I’d leave and was sitting in the room crying. They told me I had to leave, because she wouldn’t stop howling. We want to go to the Dog Whisperer and see if he can help her, because this has happened at numerous hotels.
