Last Day to help the Polar Bears on Thin Ice: Stop offshore Driiling!

Please Help these Creatures find a Home...unless you'd rather host them in your backyard

Though the summer may seem mild in New York City, the fact remains that our planet is getting hot! And while Lucky may fancy herself a pretend-polar pup as she prances about wither snowy white fur, real arctic animals are facing greater challenges everyday as a result of humanity’s recklessness with our environment.

We all know that when people push their way into an ecosystem we are bound to have a profound impact, and this counts double in arctic regions. Not only are arctic creatures, like the Polar Bear, actively affected by human intrusion into their habitat, but they are passively effected by the cumulative effects of global warming as well.

I have just received an alarming email from the wonderful people at Oceana, who work tirelessly to save the worlds oceans and the creatures who call them home, rallying aid to their cause to protect the majestic Polar Bear and their frozen home.

The United States Government plans to commence offshore drilling for oil and natural gases smack dab in the middle of the land that the Polar Bear population calls home in the Chuchki Sea. With the ice melting at alarming rates, Polar Bears are already finding themselves stranded on ice flows, leaving orphaned cubs behind, as they are forced to swim increasingly tiresome distances to find food. Now imagine adding an extremely destructive and devastating oil spill into the mix. Our knowledge of the arctic ecosystem is not complete and complicating the scene with slick, oozing oil, just waiting to burst and poison the sea is a truly terrifying prospect. The torment and horror that would be inflicted on these creatures is something that Lucky, I, and hopefully you cannot stand for.

Though last Summer’s crisis in the Gulf of Mexico has surely illuminated the cataclysmic effects of offshore drilling, the government is still willing to turn a blind eye to real dangers to our one and only planet in favor of turning a profit. Despite the warnings of Scientists and the rulings of various judicial systems, the suits behind big oil are chugging along in this endeavor and we can use every hand, paw, beak, or claw that we can get in preventing yet another man made disaster.
