Kelly Rowland of Destiny’s Child
Her doggies are Poochylicious! 
21-year-old Destiny’s Child singer and soloist, Kelly Rowland is crazy for her three pups, Teacup Yorkies Mocha and Mohawk, and Bulldog, Spanky. “Mocha comes with me everywhere. She doesn’t like to walk on the ground, but she loves to be carried in her bag. She has this red, orange, yellow and purple bag that I take her around in – it is so hot!” Her personality? “Mocha is very sassy. That sums her up perfectly.”
Why is Mocha the lucky one who can accompany Rowland to the recording studio and all around town? “She’s the best trained. She’s a little girl.” Of her male dogs, she says, “I can’t take them out because they are really hardcore. Spanky looks mean, but he’s actually very friendly and of course adorable! Mohawk is difficult to deal with. He loves to eat and likes to go to the bathroom everywhere.” Boy Yorkies will be boy Yorkies!
When it comes to buying gifts for her pups, Rowland inevitably shops at New York City’s “La Chien.” “I have my eye on this little doggie couch, and maybe also a couple of small outfits.”
Although Kelly would love to sing to Mocha, the dog doesn’t like loud music. After belting out a bar of a song that the rest of the country would pay big money to hear, “she’s like ‘Mama, put me down!’ But she does like Sade,” Kelly confesses.
“The dog really has attitude. You should see it. If I tap her with my foot by accident at night, she whips her head around and glares at me, as if saying ‘how dare you disturb me, I was comfortable!’” “She’s very protective. Once, I was on set, and I guess someone walked too close to me. Mocha immediately started barking in the middle of taping. Like she is really going to do something,” Rowland laughs. Mocha seems to have the attitude of the Independent Woman Destiny’s Child topped the charts with, but alas, is trapped in the body of a litterbox-trained lapdog.
Kelly is currently working on some new projects of her own. She recently released her first solo album, Simply Deep, and is filming horror flick Freddie Vs. Jason in Vancouver. She took a few days off from filming to appear in Saturday Night Live this season, and Mocha wasn’t able to come along. “I called her every day like a worried mother. I wanted to talk to her on the phone and all I heard was panting.”
Clearly head over heels, Kelly is now spreading her puppy love. “I got Beyonce’s sister, Solange a Chihuahua for her birthday. He is absolutely adorable.” They had hopes that the two miniature dogs would make fast friends like their human mothers, but Kelly reports, “They just cannot get along.” As for the other members of Destiny’s Child, they remain dogless, but Kelly claims, “When they see Mocha they want one.”
