Professional golfer, Rory Sabbatini has made his mark on the golf course since the tender age of eight. When he’s not breaking golf records, you can find Sabbatini chipping with his two favorite canine caddies, Dachshunds, Chloe and Zoe. “They’re actually the first Dachshunds I’ve ever had,” Sabbatini said. “They’re just really good dogs. They sleep in bed with us under the covers, down at our feet.” Sabbatini hails from Durban, South Africa and currently resides in Texas with his family. He shares his life with wife, Amy, two children, Harley Aiden and Tylie Jo, and his dogs.
Sabbatini turned pro in 1998 after graduating from the University of Arizona. On the green, Sabbatini was tied for second in the 2007 PGA Tour at the Masters Tournament, and third at Nelson. He also tied for the course record of 64 at the Wachovia Championship in May 2007. Sabbatini was victorious and won the WGC World Cup in 2003 with partner Trevor Immelman.
Although Rory Sabbatini loves being a professional golfer, when choosing between driving balls and fetching balls, he chooses the latter. “I would rather play with the dogs, it’s easier,” Sabbatini said.
Sabbatini takes both dogs on tour with him occasionally, but Zoe always accompanies him and his family aboard his boat. “She won’t let us go on the boat without her,” Sabbatini said. “She’s a daredevil.”
Zoe loves the water. “She’ll drink water out of the toilet even when there’s a bowl of water right next to it,” Sabbatini said. He also commented on her big belly and said “she’s like that character from Austin Powers.”
Sabbatini also prides his dogs in being very intelligent. “They opened a bottle of Prego sauce, a glass bottle with a lid,” Sabbatini said.
Together Sabbatini and Banfield Pet Hospital are raising money for the U.S. Military Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund. The Banfield Pet Hospital was founded in 1955 and now has over 600 hospitals across the U.S., the U.K. and Mexico, and treats over 3.5 million pets each year. Banfield is dedicated to treating pets like family with medicine fit for humans. Sabbatini encourages animal parents to support the U.S. Military by purchasing “Pet Hero” dog tags, with all proceeds going to the Fallen Heroes Fund. The dog tags can be purchased at Banfield, The Pet Hospital and PetSmart retail stores nationwide.
