Going for the Gold with Olympic Pets: Lauryn Williams – Track and Field

Lauryn Williams and her Grecian Goddess, Atheena

After winning the Silver medal in 100 meters at the 2004 Athens Olympic Games, Lauryn Williams celebrated by getting a pure American Kennel Club Great Dane donning her a very Grecian name, Atheena. While Atheena may not have the look of a runner, she occasionally trains with Williams. “When she does, she usually just does the warm up with me,then goes and relaxes under a tree. She definitely can’t go the distance. She is more of a leisure dog,” Williams admits, adding,“She is so uncoordinated, she almost wipes out most of the time, and isn’t very fast but seems so happy and free it makes me feel good.”
