Two Eligible Pets Live in the Home of One Trusted Health Advisor
Dr. Andrew Weil once said “you’ve got to experiment to figure out what works.” It didn’t take long for this Harvard educated doctor to figure out the right recipe for success. The bestselling author and physician has helped pioneer and develop integrated medicine, a relatively new and alternative form of medicine that stresses the focus on healing and health. In addition, as physician Elson Haas has put it, “integrative medicine focuses on preventive maintenance of health by paying attention to all relative components of lifestyle, including diet, exercise, stress management, and emotional well-being.” With such a well-respected owner, who gives diet advice to countless people around the world, Dr. Weil’s pets are some of our most eligible!
Jambo and Daisy are Dr. Weil’s two Rhodesian Ridgebacks, but they certainly are not his first. “Jambo was a gift at six weeks from a breeder in Tucson who had read about the death of my previous Ridgebacks,” Dr. Weil told Animal Fair. As soon as he had one Ridgeback in the house, it was time for another, but Dr. Weil chose to bring a relative into the house. “I got Daisy from the owner of Jambo’s brother who was her sire.” The new dogs in the house were a perfect fit and today Jambo is 11-years-old and Daisy is ten. Don’t expect these two to have poor diets, Weil feeds them “Pet Promise dry and wet food with various supplements,” but Dr. Weil doesn’t consult pet’s diets, for now he “usually [just advises] their owners.” One luxury these pets have is to be around their owner all the time. “Many work-relations occur at my home and my dogs usually participate.” Who knows, maybe these two pooches will start to give some important medical advice of their own.
Because of his advancements in medical work Weil has graced the cover of Time magazine twice. They named him one of America’s 25 most influential people in 1997 and one of the 100 most influential people in the World in 2005. Maybe Daisy and Jambo will grace the cover of Time magazine one day too, after all, having Dr. Weil as your father is one huge advantage.
