Elegant Designs With Pets In Minds: Rebecca Alston Creates Design And Art With Ms. Yorkie

Rebecca Alston is a visionary artist, combines her talents for architecture and interior designer to create innovative, custom designs which incorporate her distinctive artwork. She has brought her designs to private residences, building renovations, and corporate settings.

Alston has a beautiful Yorkie, aptly named Ms. Yorkie, who comes to the office every day. “Yorkie’s greatest presence in the office is that she has a direct impact on decreasing the stress loads,” Alston explains. “She helps people keep a perspective on a situation. If I become upset over an issue, she comes to my desk and I gain the greatest quality of perspective on the situation.”

A unique aspect of Alston’s work is Environmental Color Consulting, a technique that combines finding the correct color for an environment with respect to the architecture and design. Imagine matching colors to go with the colors in your pet’s fur! According to Alston, “Dogs have wonderful color harmony schemes. When you look at Ms. Yorkie you have a golden ran played against the darker umbers and the lightest silver colors. All dogs have a natural color harmony.”

It is important to include your pets in your design plans. “When designing an environment for all dogs, their care and safety has to be considered. When an environment is not created or designed to take a dog into consideration someone has to compensate for not having a pet-friendly environment,” Alston advises. Another reason to list your pets in the program development is so the designer can make sure to work with materials that will be pet-friendly. There are many examples of areas in the home that can be designed with pets in mind such as lighting, eating areas, types of flooring and sinks big enough for grooming.

Some final advice from Alston is the key to making your home of office a perfect space for you and your pooch: “I strongly feel dogs keep the office and home environment balanced and when you listen or watch them they will tell you what they want. After all they consider you their best friends.
