From the East coast to the West coast, from runways to TV, Lucky and I have had a busy week and it’s helping us finally realize something crucial: Bow Wow WOW, we need a vacation!
We started the week in the East (no- not the Far East – as far east as NYC) with Animal Fair Magazine’s 9th Annual Paws For Style presented by Cesar Canine Cuisine. The canines (and people) came in all sorts of lavishly chic ensembles to support the Humane Society of New York. Lucky, par usual, was trying to be the number one diva of the day but I told her she had to tone down her dog-i-tude a bit (a lot) before she started any catfights with other celibridogs on the catwalk.
The outfits, worn by both the dogs and their runway celeb escorts are now on eBay for your bidding pleasure. Tory Burch, Rebecca Taylor, Marc Jacobs, Nautica, Nanette Lepore all created one of a kind dog outfits for the show and now for bid! The night itself was a howling good time and a hit, definitely one of our best Paws For Style to date. I want to thank everyone who was involved in helping make it such a “Bark of the Town” event, I felt like I was on an episode of The Hills (the fact that Lauren Conrad was there certainly encourages that sentiment). In all honestly, maybe Lucky and I are a bit over the hill (Lucky in dog years … me in human years) for The Hills, but our youthful spirit did help to raise a lot of money for a great cause, and the Humane Society truly appreciates everyone’s support.
But the fundraiser hasn’t ended yet! Right now you can jump on our website and find stunning, custom made pieces of canine couture from top dog designers like Ed Hardy, Maggie Norris, Tory Burch, Mione, Hale Bob, Rebecca Taylor, and Ralph Rucci, as well as other items worn by our celebrity dog walkers from designers Badgley Mishka, Nanette LePore, Miquelina, and Donna Karen! Check out the fashions at (www.ebay.com/pawsforstyle) and start bidding!
As soon as Lucky and I walked off the fashion runway we hopped on the airport runway and jetted to LA. Lucky and I were in town to check out the CBS TCA Party in Hollywood and to do a little promotion for our new hit CBS show, Greatest American Dog.
At the party we ran into what seemed like more stars than there are on the walk of fame. Lucky spotted some Greatest American Dog contestants who were (surprisingly) happy to see me. When I saw Michael and Ezzie, Michael screamed “I love Wendy Diamond!” I guess I’m not the most intimidating person out there (a.k.a Wendy Cowell), especially since I’m not British. I also saw CSI EP Naren Shanker and the show’s star William “Billy” Peterson. I asked the two why they don’t do more work with animals on the show and then I realized … no dogs are committing crimes… only solving crimes. Lucky and I also saw dog-lover and Gossip Girl star Leighton Meester, Mary Louise-Parker, Jennifer Love-Hewitt (without her new Boxer, Mona) and comedienne Julia Louis-Dreyfuss.
At the party I spoke with Drew Carey, a native Ohian like myself, and he gave me the scoop on his three dogs. Carey has a rescue Lab/Retriever named Dave and another rescue named Gretchen who once belonged to a meth dealer. The minute he said that, I looked over at Lucky with question (possibly suspicion) and asked her what pooch posse was she running with before I adopted her. She just batted her eyes – which kind of worries me (and then – not). Carey said that Gretchen named herself because he would test hard and soft sounds and see the dogs response… so Gretchen named herself because the combination of sounds that make-up Gretchen suited her the best. I find this to be an interesting method… but I wonder what would happen if we named kids that way…? Do you think Brad and Angelina would have still come up with Knox Leon and Vivienne Marcheline Jolie-Pitt (probably)!
Carey, who took over Bob Barker’s role as host of the continuing cult classic TV series The Price is Right decided to keep Barker’s iconic message, still closing the show with “and don’t forget…have your pet spayed or neutered.” Well it turns out that Drew’s close friend Sam Simon (one of the original creators of The Simpsons as well as founder of the rescue organization, The Sam Simon Foundation) is teaming up with Price is Right as they go on the road. The Sam Simon Foundation, which provides the largest free spaying and neutering service in Los Angeles is going to take its mobile neutering system with the Price is Right on the road! Just think – you can get your pet fixed and then try and get yourself on the show – for exactly the right price – O dollars thanks to Sam Simon and Drew Carey!
