Many of them end up being sold for biomedical research and subjected to painful, invasive testing. Others are conditioned into dog fighting for money or stolen for the reward money that heartbroken owners offer.
Preventing Dog Theft
National Pet Recovery, a private pet recovery company, states that more than 40 percent of the dog cases reported to them involve a stolen dog. Here are some tips for keeping your dog safe.
+ Secure your yard. At home, keep your dog in a fenced and locked yard. Lock your dog. If you leave your dog unattended in public, be sure to secure him to a fixed object like a tree or lamppost with a lockable leash like The Doglock.
+ Don’t leave your dog unattended in your car. It’s easy for a thief to break into an automobile and steal your pet.
+ ID your dog. Make sure your dog wears ID tags or has a microchip implanted under the skin.
+ Take and keep recent photos of your dog. Keep pet ownership papers.
+ Have your neighbors keep watch. Let your neighbors know when you’ll begone, who’s taking care of your dog and whether or not you’re expecting others on your property.
