Akasha Richmond has been a personal chef for more than two decades and knows how to please the palates of Tinsletown stars including Billy Bob Thornton, Pierce Brosnan, Barbra Streisand, Carrie Fisher and Sanaa Lathan. These days, Richmond is keeping busy with her book Hollywood Dish, her new food company Eaturna, and cooking mostly for special events. Chef Akasha opened up her kitchen to Animal Fair and dished about her love of animals, food, and the recipe that makes her cat, Frankie, go crazy!
AF: You are one of Hollywood’s favorite chefs. What would you say are some super foods?
AR: Soy milk, any kind of dark green leafy vegetables, wild salmon, almonds, whole grains. Fruits and vegetables, of course. Honestly, I think you should eat a big salad every day. It’s really important. I do.
AF: Any funny stories you’d like to share about your cats, Sam and Frankie?
AR: Sam got trapped in the dishwasher once. I heard all this rattling, so I opened the door right away and there he was. Once Frankie tried to climb into the oven when I was making chicken. He put one paw and jumped back. They never made those mistakes again!
AF: Being a chef, do your cats get to taste any recipes?
AR: Frankie loves people food. He loves my salmon salad. He also likes chicken, turkey and hamburgers.
AF: Tell us about your book!
AR: My book is called Hollywood Dish. It has tons of great recipes and delves into the history of healthy eating in Hollywood. If you eat healthy, you look and feel better. Feeling better is key. You can diet on crappy, frozen foods but you are not going to feel as good.
