Broadway Gavin Creel and Wally Let Their Hair Fly In The Breeze

New York City is abuzz about Gavin Creel, the Ohio native who has become a Broadway superstar. Gavin has blown the theatre world away with his phenomenal singing and acting in past musicals such as In La Cage Aux Folles, In Bounce, Mary Poppins and in Thoroughly Modern Millie (earning him a Tony- nominated performance for Best Actor). Gavin is currently getting rave reviews and picking up another Best Actor Tony nomination for his role as Claude in Broadway’s Hair: The American Tribal Love-Rock Musical. His busy schedule gets “hairy” with rehearsal and shows every day of the week besides being in the studio working on his soon to be release upcoming CD!

When Creel traveled to North Shore Animal League last year he found his furry match!  The canine not only keeps up with the performer, he gives him a run for his money. Between Wally waking him up at the crack of dawn, barking at rocks whenever he sees one, and chasing skateboards, there’s never a dull moment. Creel thinks the new spokesperson for North Shore Animal League Adoptathon, Cesar Millan might help him figure out his hyperactive Wally. “When he’s in a new place he gets all hyper and fidgety, but he’s a puppy still, so he’ll calm down eventually.” Creel is between a rock and a hard place at times, “I would love for Cesar Millan to come help me teach him to stop eating things. And figure out his rock obsession! When he finds a rock he goes nuts!”

The adorable Wally is always by his owner’s side and although he can’t be in the dressing room (although Creel has snuck him in a couple of times) he is always on Creel’s mind. Creel gushes,” It sounds like a story book thing, the second I saw him, I just knew.” Adds Creel, “They said I needed to wait a couple of hours before I could adopt him, but I said, ‘I’m taking him now!”

The two are inseparable! Creel says, “Wherever I go, he goes.” And Wally will even be accompanying the Broadway star on the road promoting his upcoming CD that Creel describes as being “a cross between a throwback to smooth George Michael, some Damien Rice, a little bit of James Blunt, and a lot of singer/songwriter stuff that’s really quiet and intimate.” Will Wally be putting down some backup vocal tracks on Creel’s new CD? Creel pipes up, “No background vocals – even though he has perfect pitch.” Just like his praised performing parent!
