We can help the animals displaced and hurt during Houston’s massive hurricane! Please social media share and tell your friends and family about the following local rescue groups:
The Humane Society is just one of the many groups that solely rely on donations to be able to continue saving animals. Others local groups include Houston K911 Rescue, Warriors Educate About Rescue, S.A.V.E Rescue Coalition, the Rescued Pets Movement and the Forgotten Dogs of the 5th Ward Project. The nonprofit Houston PetSet has set up a Hurricane Harvey Disaster Relief Fund, where all moneys received will be distributed to support local animal welfare groups and efforts in the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey.
The Houston Hurricane Harvey historic flooding, cautions all of us to be pet-safety ready for natural disasters. Animal Fair Media wants you and your pet to be prepared and remain safe – check out these pet-safety tips here:
- Information is the most important factor to have during a natural disaster! Always keep with you – the phone numbers and addresses of veterinarians, shelters and pet-friendly hotels, your pet’s medical records and medication information!
- Pet Emergency Kit! Gather the necessary supplies. When collecting important items such as water, food, medical kits, etc., stock up on enough to make it through at least one week. Have plenty of pet food and water on “paw”, as well as your pet’s favorite toys and treats. Also, have any and all medication that your pet might take, along with extra gauze, ointments, bandages and other first aid supplies for both you and your pet.
- Bring your pet indoors immediately! If, dog-forbid, your pet get gets separated from you, you should have all the right tools to find him or her. Make sure Fido or Fluffy is wearing a collar with proper identification or has a microchip that can easily locate him or her. If you and your pet need to leave your home, please have a safe, strong, comfortable leash or a sturdy carrier.
- And always establish a designated safe place to land – destination, in case you must leave suddenly! Listen to weather updates on your cell phone (charge phone with battery beforehand and take battery with you) or portable battery operated radio for updates before heading out!
- During the severe storms, it is important to remain calm; as your pet may see you panic and become frightened and confused. Stay with your furry friend and speak to him or her in a soothing, reassuring tone, while gently petting them to keep relaxed.
Together we can assist the animals in Houston so they feel loved and safe. They’re waiting and depending on us! Hopefully cats with be purring and dogs barking with joy and relief very soon!
