American Ballet Theatre is a unique place to dance. Besides its prestige as one of the world’s leading dance companies, ABT has many legendary alumni, including Mikhail Baryshnikov, Fernando Bujones, Julio Bocca, Alicia Alonso, and Allesandra Ferri.
However, one of the other exciting aspects of ABT is that dancers are allowed – and encouraged – to bring their pets to work! Pets keep their owners and the other dancers company in the studio and on the road. “Our dancers’ four-legged companions have become travel veterans through years of touring, logging frequent flyer miles, staying in hotels, and sniffing around some of the country’s greatest theaters and performing arts venues,” says Rebecca Kim, press associate for ABT.
These dance troupe pups have befriended many choreographers, designers, and other celebrities, including Twyla Tharp, Lang Lang, Ralph Rucci, and Gelsey Kirkland. The dogs have fun twirling, dancing, and leaping along with their owners and the rest of their ABT family.
