It’s the giving season and just a year ago a new movement started to create a national day of giving to kick off that season! It’s called Giving Tuesday and falls on the Tuesday following Thanksgiving, Black Friday and Cyber Monday to encourage the giving community to start the season by giving back. Many non-profits have signed up to be a part of #GivingTuesday to encourage people to help them out this holiday season!
#GivingTuesday celebrates and encourages charitable activities that support nonprofit organizations. It was created to foster giving during a time of the year when there is a lot of focus on shopping. Since there are two days dedicated to shopping in connection with the holidays – Black Friday and Cyber Monday, shouldn’t there be at least one day focused on giving back?
In that spirit, one group contributing to Giving Tuesday is the National Animal Shelter Campaign, designed to raise pet food and other supplies for many of the shelters and rescues doing good work day in and day out to help the animals in their care. You can purchase pet food and other supplies to donate to any of the organizations participating. Just visit You Give Goods Loves Animals, select an organization to donate to, and your donation will be delivered for you – directly to the shelter or rescue that you want to help.
The Greater Los Angeles Zoo Association (GLAZA) has also announced its participation in #GivingTuesday. According to GLAZA President Connie Morgan, “We invite people to participate in #GivingTuesday by playing a personal role in conserving and saving wildlife through donating to one or more of GLAZA’s programs. In keeping with the season’s spirit, donations can be made in honor of a loved one, as a gift to a friend or family member, or simply for the giver.”
It’s the season for giving thanks! It’s also the time of year when those at Morris Animal Foundation are thinking a lot about the wonderful animals who share our lives and how daily work keeps them healthy and happy. Animals give so much: affection, company, purpose, perspective and unconditional love. We are grateful to have them in our lives and to have the support of thousands of animal lovers who share our passion for improving animal health.
This holiday season, Morris Animal Foundation has an incredible opportunity to make your donations work even harder. A donor has stepped forward with one of our largest challenge matches ever! The donor has agreed to give $100,000 to Morris Animal Foundation if we are able to raise the same amount by December 31, 2013. That means if you were to donate $100 through the Season of Hope Gift Match, their benefactor will turn that gift into $200. We hope you’ll take advantage of this amazing opportunity to make your donation go twice as far and do twice as much good for animals!
Feral Fixers in DuPage County, has had two donors step up to match up to $2,000 donations through Tuesday for #GivingTuesday. The funds will help support the spay and neuter surgeries, vaccinations and other costs associated with their Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) programs and rehoming the strays cats they take in. Feral Fixers has spayed/neutered 6,000 cats in six years. Click here to donate and reference Black Cat Fundraiser when you donate!
Please pitch in if you can on #GivingTuesday and remember that shelters and rescues need all kinds of support to help them care for the cats, dogs, rabbits and other critters in their care.
