It’s the moment we’ve all been waiting for: summer has almost arrived! The rising temperature and shining sun may enable you and your four-legged companion to get outside and embark on many fun and exciting adventures together. Along with the green grass and flourishing outdoors comes many dangerous and potentially fatal risks to your pets.
In order to keep your dog’s tail wagging and tongue panting this summer, we have tips to keep them safe:
1. Ticks and fleas are annoying but they may not be the real pests!
As you many have heard, many of these tick and flea preventative treatments are actually pesticides that can hurt your pets, and have sadly been fatal in the past! You want to be careful this summer when thinking about applying these sticky ointments on your pet’s sun kissed coat because they can be absorbed right through their skin! Read the labels and ask your vet for recommendations!
2. Be aware of poisons around your pooch!
Watching your four-legged family enjoy playing and rolling around on the grass may be amusing, but to them it can be very dangerous if you do not know what your neighbors are spraying on their lawn. Exposure to the pesticides applied on grass by professional lawn care companies can greatly increases the risk of your dog getting canine malignant lymphoma, a quick and fatal disease.
3. Prevention is as easy as a bath or spraying a hose!
To keep your pets healthy, it is crucial to be aware of what pesticides and toxins are causing this disease and try to stay farther than a tails length away. One thing you can do to help reduce the risk is bathe your pup frequently or keep a doggy bath outside for them to rinse off in! This also will allow them to get their paws wet and efficiently cool down during these scorching months!
This summer make sure to keep an eye out for the numerous toxins and pesticides that can hurt your canine.
