We all want our pets to live long, healthy lives. Veterinarians are a vital part of any healthy pet’s life! Vets are pretty much akin to Cesar Milan: they can tell us more about our animal’s state of health and mind than we could ever fathom doing ourselves. The last Saturday in April is recognized as World Veterinary Day (WVD) and its goal is to promote awareness of the importance of bringing our furry pals to get checked up on a regular basis.

Unfortunately, lots of dogs go their whole life without seeing a vet. Sometimes it’s because the pet parents don’t have access to a vet nearby, or it may be a financial reason. In other cases, animals get their regular care, but when a vet bill turns out to be pricey, pet parents simply cannot afford it. The Humane Society of the United States offers advice if one finds themselves in this type of situation. Anything for our companions!
Educational sessions, awareness parades, and media events are organized by the World Veterinary Association (WVA) to educate the public, especially the youth, on the topic of animal welfare.

Not only does this holiday serve its purpose to raise awareness, but the WVA offers a $1,000 prize each year to whichever group best celebrates the holiday! This event has surely inspired many vet visits, and hopefully prevented future health issues from affecting our loyal friends.
So how should you celebrate? Drop by your vet’s office and thank him or her for everything they do! Or, if you want to get creative, write your vet a note and have your pet sign it with a paw print. Vets are all too often the last line of defense for our animals’ health, and they work medical miracles daily. Thank you to all the world’s vets! You are heroes to all animals and their loving parents.
