Killington Vermont is a beautifully scenic vacation spot that everyone (including furry friends) should be able to enjoy. From skiing on the mountain or cross-country back trails, to hiking the many trails that Killington has to offer, Vermont is a truly fantastic place to explore both nature and adventure. Luckily, there are plenty of pet-friendly accommodations for you and your canine for every season of the year.
Pets enjoy a full pampering at The Paw House Inn located in West Rutland, Vermont, just 15 minutes from Killington. As their motto goes, “Some places accept dogs. Other places tolerate dogs. At the Paw House Inn, we CATER to dog owners and their dogs.” This Inn is the perfect getaway to share with your canine companion. In fact, those who stay at the Inn without pets are charged a fee! At the Paw House Inn, pets are provided with dog beds, food and water bowls, and a large, fenced-in backyard for dogs to play, exercise, or even receive training. There are many pet-friendly activities just minutes away, including dog friendly snowshoeing, cross-country, and skiing for the winter, swimming for the summer, and hiking for the spring and autumn.
Buttermilk Falls is located in Ludlow VT, just minutes away from the Paw House Inn. This waterfall-filled hiking path is made up of three 15-foot drops that flow into smaller streams, which make both hiking and swimming wonderfully refreshing activities for both you and your pet. In addition, there are fantastic photo opportunities at Buttermilk Falls because of the open skies, so don’t forget both your camera and your tripod!
The White Rocks National Recreation Area is located in The Green Mountain National Forest in Vermont, about 30 minutes from The Paw House Inn. Within this 36,000-acre area, there are many outdoor recreational activities that both you and your pet can enjoy. The land is historically fascinating, in that both Native Americans and European settlers utilized the natural resources of the land. Before the 1930s, the land was then used for farming, industry, and settlement. However, now The Green Mountain National Forest is a preserved area, where the land, nature, and wildlife are protected. The WRNRA has many trails that range in difficulty, so all levels of hikers are welcome! There are steep hikes to the top of the mountaintop, or smooth trails through wooded forests. In addition, winter activities in the National Forest are plentiful. Cross-Country Skiing, Snowshoeing, snowmobiling, and dogsledding are just some of the activities that the WRNRA offers. The area also has a 12-mile ski trail. Whichever trail you take and whatever season you visit, the scenery is sure to impress you.
Although our beloved pets are capable of a lot, unfortunately they cannot always join their owners in certain activities such as one of Vermont’s main attractions, skiing. Luckily, there are many pet-friendly hotels in the Killington area that accommodate pets and provide proper care while you enjoy more people-oriented activities. At the Chalet Killington, pets are welcome and crates are not required. While you and your family enjoy the slopes of Killington Mountain, pets are allowed to freely roam the room uncrated. In addition, dog walkers are available, so you won’t have to rush back to the hotel every few hours to let your pet out.
At the Mountain Top Inn and Resort, pets are also welcome. Canines are provided with dog beds, water and food bowls, and treats. In addition, the resort has designated cross country and hiking trails that permit both you and your pet as well as a designated pet sitting service for when you want to do human activities without your four-legged friend.
Just because you can’t always bring your dog skiing with you, doesn’t mean you can’t bring them out to eat! The Lake House is a small restaurant with an incredibly scenic view of Lake Bomoseen that you and your pet can enjoy. In addition, there is live music and entertainment on the deck of the restaurant during the summer months. While humans can choose from a diverse menu, dogs can also select from their own special menu (with the help of their owners of course).
Sal’s South is another delicious and pet-friendly restaurant. An Italian restaurant and Pizza Parlor, Sal’s South is located a few miles outside of Killington in Wallingford Vermont. The cozy Italian atmosphere is located outside and overlooks a main street so you and your canine companion can enjoy a real Vermont view while enjoying authentic Italian cuisine.
Next time you plan a trip to Vermont, don’t break the hearts of your pets by leaving them in a kennel while you enjoy your vacation. Instead, bring them along! Vermont is a dog-friendly state with many activities and attractions in which both you and your pooch can participate.
