Why would an unused cargo terminal at JFK airport be something of interest to animal loving jet setters?
Because of one word- ARK! ARK is the world’s first animal air terminal that is under construction at JFK in New York!
The canine section of this project has a lot of sweet features! Including a pool, massage therapy, “pawdicures”, hotel suites with flat screen TVs, a 24 hour veterinarian services run by Cornell University, and even a webcam so you can watch your pooch have the time of their life!
It is the ultimate animal traveler’s sanctuary! This $48 million terminal being built by ARK Development, an affiliate of Racebrook Capital, is not just for dogs who are going to visit friends around the world, it also will accommodate almost any animal you can think of!
There will be climate controlled stalls and pens for livestock that are traveling like sheep, goats, cattle, pigs, etc. There will also be special facilities for more exotic animals like penguins or sloths!
And don’t forget about the horses! Horses are surprisingly frequent flyers, and especially show or racing horses tend to travel a lot for competitions. The ARK will make it much easier on the owners to travel and provide a calm environment to the stresses of flying for horses!
The ARK will be a game changer for many people who travel with animals! It will not only be a more safe and calm environment for dogs traveling in the cabin or with the cargo, but it will serve as a closer and updated place for certain animals to be screened and quarantined for diseases.
The most exciting part? The terminal, cleverly named after the biblical structure that was the first famous form of serious animal travel, is set to open next year! Happy travels!
