Taiwan has made great strides in helping the underdog! They have officially become the first Asian country to ban the sale and consumption of cat and dog meat.
This law was passed as an amendment to the Animal Protection Act to ensure that pet meat cannot be sold anywhere in Taiwan, as opposed to the previous law that only applied to certain localities.
The country of Taiwan is also taking other measure to make the country more pet-friendly! For example, those found intentionally harming animals can face jail time and a hefty fine. Pet parents cannot let their dog run alongside their scooters (a popular mode of transportation in Taiwan) while on a leash. These amendments are in the process of being passed into law by the Taiwanese government.
Unfortunately, many other Asian country still consider the buying, selling, and eating of dog and cat meat to be normal. This needs to end! We want to end this cruelty to animals worldwide! YOU can help by signing the many online petitions (like these ones for China and Vietnam) to end this practice, spreading the word on social media and in person, and going straight to the government if you live in one of these countries that condones these practices.
Thank you, Taiwan, for making the world a little safer and happier for all pups and pet parents!
