Fozzi was adopted by Gaga, and is an adorable cockapoo (a cross breed of American Cocker Spaniel with a Toy Poodle). Ever since she adopted this bundle of fur, Gaga has rarely been seen with out him! Fozzi never leaves his mommy’s side, even when the paparazzi are hounding them. He follows Gaga dutifully when she is not holding him, and even tries on her wigs and glasses. Lady Gaga and Fozzi are nothing but inseparable.
It is rumored that dogs and their parents begin to resemble each other after long periods of time together. This can be suggested about Lady Gaga, who once dyed her hair a soft brown and, whether deliberately or not, matched her pooch’s fur color! She also bought both herself and her pup, Fozzi, matching Louis Vuitton x Yayoi Kusama collars. The fashionable duo showed off the spotted yellow collars recently.
There is much controversy on Lady Gaga’s stance on wearing fur. Recently, she issued a statement in response on PETA’s harsh criticism of her wearing fur. One segment of her statement says, “I am not a strict vegan. I have truly always stayed away from skinned fur, especially I have never been able to afford a nice one, but this does not mean my morals are rigid and that I won’t bend at the sight of an absolute art piece of a coat…You see a carcass, I see a museum pièce de résistance,” Fans of Lady Gaga who are animal activists are deeply disappointed with their Mother Monster, and feel as if her statement is telling them that they have no appreciation of art due to the fact that they do not wear fur.
Russell Simmons, a vegan hip-hop artist wrote a letter to Gaga professing his hope that she will reconsider her views on animals. He writes, “the ripping off of skin of other sentient beings while they are still alive – during a time when we have options available to us to wear cruelty-free alternatives – is an issue I have to lend my voice to. Wearing these skins is abusive to animals, but equally as abusive to ourselves, as we are the animal that we abuse.” Simmons explains how he loves Gaga and admires her greatly, however; he must speak up on this matter. Gaga has yet to reply to his letter.
Lady Gaga obviously loves animals, as can be seen by her attachment to Fozzi, but when it comes to wearing fur, Gaga is ambiguous. What we can discern is that she took the time to reflect on this matter before issuing her statement and was honest.
